               Verbs – Past Tense 

                                       ( Verbe - Timpul trecut )

     The past tense is used: ( Timpul trecut este folosit:)

- to talk about actions or processes that happened once or repeatedly in the past and that are completed. ( pentru a vorbi despre acțiuni sau procese care s-au întâmplat o dată sau în mod repetat în trecut și care sunt finalizate )
key words: ‘yesterday, last month, last year, two weeks ago, in 1999’ ( cuvinte cheie: „ieri, luna trecută, anul trecut, acum două săptămâni, în 1999” )
ex. :“I bought a new car two months ago.” ( Am cumparat o maşină nouă acum două luni.)

• “Sabrina arrived in London very late last night.” ( Sabrina a ajuns in Londra foarte târziu noaptea trecută.)

- for actions that happened consecutively in the past which means one after the other in a short time: ( pentru acțiunile care s-au întâmplat consecutiv în trecut ceea ce înseamnă una după alta într-un timp scurt: )
ex.: “He came home, opened the window and took a bath.” ( El a venit acasă, a deschis fereastra şi a făcut baie.)

• “Sue bought a book, went home and started to read it straightaway. ( Sue a cumpărat o carte, a mers acasă şi a început să o citească imediat.) 

    The formation of the past simple:   is relatively easy for regular verbs as in most cases we only need to add the ending ‘-ed’ to the infinitive form of the verb.  ( Formarea timpului trecut : este relativ ușor pentru verbele obișnuite, deoarece în majoritatea cazurilor trebuie doar să adăugăm sfârșitul „-ed” la forma infinitivă a verbului.)

ex. : work ( a lucra) + ed = worked ( a lucrat )
